As our illegitimate President spouts military threats against Iran in order to “stabilize the region”, we must look not only at the planned escalation of the war on Iraq, but also at what’s next?! Jim Murphy will share his DVD chronicling his recent trip to Iran.
Discussion on the peoples and cultures of Iran; the all too familiar cry of weapons of mass destruction (however real it may be, intervention by the US and Israel will only escalate it); US foreign and military policy toward Iran, Iraq, Israel, Palestine and the whole mess we’re further stirring in the Middle East; how to deter young people vulnerable to the military recruiters’ lure of enlistment.
Jim Murphy – a graduate of Fairport HS, NY; served in Vietnam in l966 – ’68; returned to become active with Vietnam Veterans against the War (VVAW); earned his B.A. at U of Maryland and later became Director of Education at Shon Tai Wilderness School in rural Virginia, providing alternatives to incarceration for young men; attended Indiana University’s Alternative School Teacher Education Program; currently coordinates NY Veterans Speak Out, a project of Veterans for Peace sending veterans to speak in HS classes in the NYC metro area, bearing witness to the negative and lasting effects of war; former producer with TEEN TALK RADIO … On the Move; taught in NYC for 25 years and still active at West Side HS as a voice for alternative education.
