I saw Tom Hayden last year and had jotted down these quotes:
He described the Sixties as “movements against Machiavelliasts”
Talking about the Chicago 8 trial he said: “the jury thought better to compromise than to stand up. What disappears when you compromise is that 1 good person can change the world. There is an American propsensity to say all sides are right and let someone else decide.”
I didn’t have the heart to ask him if he understood that his support of the Democratic Party put him in the same position as the Chicago 8 jury.
