Green Candidate Calls Bill Passage “Unconscionable“Citing a pervasive “weakness”, Green Party Presidential hopeful Alan Augustson criticized Congressional leaders for conceding to President Bush’s continuation of funding for the War in Iraq.
“This Congress was elected on the promise of reigning in the insanity,” said Augustson in a statement to party members. “They’ve shown nothing but weakness. Allowing (President) Bush to steamroll his policies over the legislative process, showing no more backbone, perhaps less, than the previous Congress, is unconscionable.”
Augustson’s proposed program as President, according to his Straight Answers series of position statements, includes as “job number one” the total removal of all troops from Iraq, along with the cancellation of all Federal government contracts in Iraq and “vigorous audit” of all contractor activities, and a new, independent investigation into the intelligence used to justify the war.
Alan Augustson, a Chicago economist, statistician and consultant, announced his bid for the 2008 Green Party nomination in April.
