I went to the Huntington Folk Festival tonight put on by the dynamic duo of Karen Finkenberg & Mike Kornfeld. There was a variety of excellent musicians, many of whom I had never heard before. I was moved by Anthony’s da Costa‘s performance during a song swap to buy his album. His songwriting skills and stage presence are compelling. This is driven home by his only being 16. I thought I saw in his vocal stylings and audience interaction hints of Dan Bern. This was confirmed by the Black Tornado quote within his album, and my discussion with him about attending Bern’s shows and his upcoming schedule.
