For the PeaceSmiths February 2008 coffeehouse, multi-instrumentalist Premik was a featured performer along with poet Max Wheat. The Coffeehouse is held the first Friday of the month from October to June. PeaceSmiths is a non-profit community organization established in 1972. The work of PeaceSmiths includes educational, activist, cultural and mutual help projects. Premik (pronounced pray-meek) is a saxophonist-composer-arranger and producer. He has worked with Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Narada Michael Walden, and Lonnie Liston-Smith among others. He is equally at home in popular, jazz, R&B, new age and experimental styles. http://www.premik.com.
Premik, was born Russell Wayne Tubbs in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. His father, Harold Tubbs, was a Big Band arranger and trumpet/flugelhorn player. Premik currently resides in Queens, New York where he owns and operates his own project studio as well as teaching woodwinds, doing free-lance composing work and performing throughout the New York area.
