Unfortunately, the editors of this web-site are no longer interested in the Ralph Nader presidential campaign. We will only be covering the Nader campaign in the lists we feel compelled to publish about other third party candidates. This situation will not change until and unless Nader makes clear that he is seeking the Green Party nomination.
It is with great disappointment, that it appears that Nader is going to repeat the same mistake that he made in 2004. Nader’s TV appearance this morning and his web-site make no mention of seeking the Green Party nomination in 2008 for president.
In 2004, as an independent candidate, Nader wasted his amazing potential fighting to get on ballot lines, rather than campaigning for votes. Nationally, the Green Party has approximately 20 ballot lines which our presidential candidate is automatically on, upon nomination. That means if Mr. Nader were our candidate, he would start with those 20 ballot lines, in the clear, with no challenge from the Democratic Party lawyers and insiders.
Instead, it appears, that Mr. Nader has chosen to repeat his path of 2004. We hope we are mistaken. But, if that is the path he chooses, it will most likely be a low-energy, low-percentage run like last time, and it will not help to build the Green Party. We will have no reason to post about the Nader campaign here.
The Green Party candidates for President, who are seeking the nomination, and whom we are proud to publicize are: Jesse Johnson of West Virginia; former Congressperson Cynthia McKinney; Kent Mesplay of California; and Kat Swift of Texas. At this point – and before this announcement – it was determined that Ralph Nader was an official “draft candidate.” That status could change based on his recent announcement.
The Green Party is a party built on values – not just candidates and personalities. The Four Pillars of the international green movement and the Green Party are: Nonviolence; Social and Economic Justice; Grassroots Democracy and Ecological Wisdom.
The Green Party has many projects, committees, and local campaigns that are exciting to participate in. In addition, we do have wonderful candidates like Cynthia McKinney who are ready to lead and ready to serve.
