for Charlotte
in a childs world
lumpentation
as a game of barefoot soccer
on a victorian afternoon
winds down
to us lying on the grass
as we re-group
arm locked onto arm
beneath
the childs head, back, legs
to lift
in unison
with the feeling of air
beneath
leading
one of us
to tell the story
of giving a lecture
on ancient Egypt
before an audience
like this
one woman listening
interrupts the lecture
DID THEY LEVITATE
yes the ancient Egyptians practiced levitation
HOW DID THEY LEVITATE
we can discuss that later
CAN YOU SHOW ME HOW THEY LEVITATED
quickly he lifted an empty chair
above his head
and back down again
now can i continue
continue
continue
the object is a lump
and i am a lump
and my thoughts are a lump
and if i can get beyond understanding
that it is all one lump
then levitation is like lifting my arm
