KW: Ian really, really, really wants me to take down the mushy picture of the Obama’s. But, I can’t help it. Those children are adorable, and I have resisted this whole, vigilant, Green Party campaign from celebrating the good parts of the Obama phenomenom. So, ;)~ to Ian. (And, everyone else who will complain or think less of me. I get one minute of celebration and one family photo.)
Anyway, I really do want to hunker down and think about what to do next.
First of all: I have colleagues who are peace bloggers who feel that Obama is homophobic. So, I want to explore that issue, and see if he needs to be lobbied on same sex marriage.
Second of all: (Or, maybe these have to happen all at once) Obama has said he will do nuclear if it is safe. I hope that was all simply political pandering. Not sure. But, environmentalists and saner minds (and saner environmentalists, because some of them are confused) have to convince him that nuclear cannot be safe.
Third of all: We have to lobby Obama about Afghanistan. But, also…
More importantly…now that the Democrats won…do we get the peace movement back? Do all those allegedly non-partisan non-profit peace groups that were taking a dive this election cycle climb back on board and hold a protest now and then? On a related note – and I have not figured out from which angle this is happening – Leslie Cagan has tendered her resignation at United for Peace and Justice. I hope to discover what that is about. I believe a difference of opinion on the strategy around elections, but I don’t know which strategy Leslie prefers.
Oh. And, the Green Party.
Wonder what happens next? I don’t think that it is so easy that all the Nader people just come waltzing back to us. But, maybe we get some of them.
Can’t wait to see Cynthia McKinney’s numbers. It will be heartening if she did even a little bit better than 2004.
Wouldn’t it be great if by the next time around, the Republicans were such toast, that it was the Green Party versus the Democrats?????
P.S. McCain congratulates Obama (gets that is the concession.) And, Hillary Clinton gets to christen him by saying “President Obama” first in the news.
