The progressive and peace community needs to come up with a response to this travesty of justice. We need to see that Muntadhar Al-Zaidi is safe. We need to understand if our President and Iraq Prime Minister Maliki encouraged and condoned torture, based on free speech directed at them. I am very angry with the recent statements from Laura Bush, which were a clever way for George Bush to cue Iraq that the Bush administration will not be advocating or protecting Al-Zaidi. Shame on George Bush. Shame on Laura Bush.

Iraqi shoe-throwing trial postponed indefinitely

The trial of the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W Bush has been postponed.
Muntadhar al-Zeidi was due to go on trial tomorrow on charges of assaulting a foreign leader.
However, a court spokesman said today that the trial had been postponed indefinitely pending a ruling n what charges al-Zeidi should face.
