This is a copy of a correspondence I have received from Lawrence Mulvey, the Nassau County Police Commissioner, regarding the formal complaint that VFPLI made regarding the abhorrent reaction of Nassau police at the Hofstra demonstration in October. As you can see, it is a complete whitewash and disregard for the facts as they occurred. At our next meeting we will discuss what if any will be our response to this miscarriage of justice. Kris/Matthis/Jose, just checking, is it true that all the “defendants” refused to be interviewed?

Dear Coordinator Mac Bica:
We have completed our review and investigation relating to the actions taken by the Nassau County Police Department outside the Presidential Debate at Hofstra University on October 15, 2008, including the concerns set forth in your October 17, 2008 letter. We have internally investigated the events that led to the arrests made at the Presidential Debate. Photos and videos provided by outside organizations were also made part of the investigation. The defendants who were arrested for disorderly conduct refused to be interviewed.
Our internal investigation has been completed and it is the opinion of the Department that the demonstrators did not heed to the requests of the Department and retreat from the roadway. These requests were made for many reasons, including, but not limited to, assuring the safety of the demonstrators. It is the opinion of the Department that the members involved acted according to procedure and policy, in a professional manner, and that force, if any used, was reasonable and not excessive as claimed. Therefore, it has been concluded by the Department that the allegations are unfounded at this time.
Lawrence W. Mulvey Police Commissioner
Sincerely,
cc: Thomas Suozzi, County Executive
