Last night, Sunday, around 9pm, I saw the beginning of the revolution…
Can you see it?…look closer…
In our plain suburban neighborhood of North Babylon, as I was walking from my car to our apartment door, I saw two young men, walking down the sidewalk, each one with a guitar in his hand, playing music.
I imagined it was the beginning of a joyous revolution. And, that, shortly after I would see more sets of youth strolling down the street, expressing themselves with music, poetry, and dance.
Alas, it is only the beginning of The Revolution. Because, I haven’t seen more signs of young and empowered, wandering minstrels.
The incident reminded me of Pete Seeger and of Pete Seeger’s words in the introduction to “Rise Up Singing”. A good read. One thing he says is, “A singing movement is a winning movement.” Pete Seeger admires folks who know how to sing the right song at the right time. And, I am sure he would be as excited as I was about the revolution on my block.
