A free Folk Jam & Sing-Along sponsored by the Folk Music Society of Huntington (www.fmshny.org) will take place on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., at the Huntington Public Library, 338 Main Street (Route 25A) in Huntington Village. This is a monthly gathering for musicians and singers of all experience levels, during which everyone joins in on songs primarily from the book “Rise Up Singing“. It affords an opportunity to play, sing and hone your skills with others.
This folk jam is acoustic (unplugged— no amplifiers). Bring your instruments, voices, the “Rise Up Singing” songbook (if you have it), and a snack/non-alcoholic beverage to share.
Coincidentally, Patricia Shih,
an FMSH member and award-winning musical artist, is hosting a book-signing party for her new book Truly Rotten Gigs from Hell: The Funny, The Sad, The Unbelievably Bad True Tales from the Music Trenches in the next room in the library at 2:00 p.m. She and her husband/accompanist Stephen Fricker will be performing and may be joined by other contributors to the book – a compilation of 75 true stories written by 35 artists. There will be refreshments, party favors and a prize for the best Gig-from-Hell story told that day. Some FMSH jammers may join Patricia’s party and some of her guests may join the jam in what promises to be a fun afternoon.
In addition to Sept. 12, future folk jams are slated for Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Dec. 12. Gary Schoenberger and Lee Ann Rush, both of whom are members of the FMSH board of directors, are co-coordinators for the monthly event.
