The Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) is proud to announce its Third Induction Award Ceremony and Fundraising Gala, which will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the famed Oheka Castle, 135 West Gate Drive in Huntington, NY. Major stars from the Latin, hip-hop, classical, metal, gospel, folk, jazz, rock ‘n roll, and oldies worlds will be joined by past inductees and celebrity presenters at the ceremony.
The third LIMHoF induction class includes (alphabetically):
OSCAR BRAND – Folk singer, songwriter and author, who has composed
over 300 songs and recorded over 100 albums. Host of radio’s Oscar
Brand’s Folksong Festival for 65 years. Recipient of two Peabody
Awards for broadcast excellence. Worked with Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White, The Weavers and Pete Seeger. Author of several folk song histories and collections.
CAROLE AND PAULA (Carole Demas and Paula Janis) – Stars of TV’s The Magic Garden children’s show that ran from 1972 to 1984. Recording of music from the show received a Grammy nomination and the program received a citation from the Children’s Television Workshop.
TEDDY CHARLES – Jazz pianist, drummer and vibraphonist. Worked with many of the great artists of the last 60 years including Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Willis and Earl Bostic.
DREAM THEATER – Influential progressive heavy metal band, with an over twenty-year history and legions of fans. Well known for the technical proficiency of its instrumentalists, who have won many awards from music instruction magazines. They’ve sold over 2.1 million albums in the U.S., and over 10 million records worldwide.
STANLEY DRUCKER – Principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, of
which he was a member for 60 years, performing in over 10,200
concerts. More than 150 appearances as a soloist with the
Philharmonic. Awarded a Guinness World Record for longest career as a
clarinetist.
ERIC B AND RAKIM – DJ Eric Barrier and MC Rakim are considered to be
one of the most influential and innovative groups in rap. MTV ranked
their landmark album, /Paid in Full,/ number one in “The Greatest
Hip-Hop Albums of All Time.” /Rolling Stone/ magazine listed it at
number 227 on “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
MORTON GOULD – Pulitzer Prize and Grammy-winning classical composer
and conductor for the concert stage, film, radio, theater and
recordings for more than 60 years. Former President of ASCAP. Member
of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and
recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
BOB GRUEN – One of the greatest rock and roll photographers and
creator of many iconic images. Was John Lennon’s personal photographer
during his time in New York City. Also known for photos of among many
others, Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Led Zeppelin, Sean Lennon, Yoko
Ono, Joe Strummer, The Who and Green Day.
ROY HAYNES – Jazz drummer and bandleader, one of the most recorded
percussionists in jazz for more than 60 years, inducted into the Down
Beat Magazine Hall of Fame. Has played in a wide range of styles
ranging from swing and bebop to jazz fusion and avant-garde jazz.
AL KOOPER – Songwriter, record producer, organist and guitarist since
the mid-1950s- one of the founders of Blood, Sweat and Tears and
creator of Super Session with himself, Stephen Stills and Mike
Bloomfield. Also worked with Bob Dylan and The Blues Project.
Performed on hundreds of recordings.
STEVE MARTIN – President for North America of the Agency Group, one of the largest booking agencies in the business, with a roster of over
1,000 artists. Representing rock, metal, reggae, folk, R&B, hip-hop,
classical, and children’s entertainment.
DONNIE MCCLURKIN – Gospel singer and winner of three Grammy awards, ten Stellar awards, two BET awards, two Soul Train awards, one Dove
award and one NAACP Image award. Host of the Donnie McClurkin Radio
Program and “Perfecting Your Praise” on cable television.
DENIS MCNAMARA – Award winning program director and DJ of WLIR radio, an important part of Long Island music scene and one of the
most-listened to outlets of its kind in the country. Currently
voice-over artist, consultant to radio and music artists, and guest
host for WRCN 103.9.
MY FATHERS PLACE (venue) – One of Long Island’s great concert venues
for many years. Located in Roslyn and operated by Michael “Eppy”
Epstein. Presented hundreds of major artists in many different genres.
Worked closely with WLIR-FM radio, which broadcast many concerts from
the venue.
EDDIE PALMIERI – Nine-Time Grammy Award-winning Latin pianist and
bandleader. In 2009 his album “Azucar Pa Ti” was inducted into the
National Recording Registry of The United States Library of Congress.
Best known for combining jazz piano and instrumental solos with Latin
rhythms. More than 50 years in the business.
LOU REED – Guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of The Velvet
Underground, solo artist, singer and songwriter across multiple genres
and in many styles, with nearly 50 years in the music business. Best
known for “Walk on the Wild Side.”
THE SHANGRI-LAS – Girl group from the 1960s – best known for “Leader
of the Pack” and “Remember (Walking in the Sand).” They
performed with the Beatles and toured with The Drifters and James
Brown. Cited as an influence by 70s punk rock-era acts such as the New
York Dolls and Blondie.
JOHN ZORN – Avant-garde composer, arranger, record producer,
saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist. Has hundreds of album credits
as a performer, composer or producer. His experimental music draws
from a wide range of musical genres and traditions. Leader of Naked
City and Masada.
LIMHoF will also present the 2010 Music Educator of Note Award to a
recipient who will be selected by November 1, and will formally
present the 2009 Award to the family of Joseph Sugar, who passed away
in 2009.
Inductees and presenters who have attended the previous two LIMHoF
Galas include Billy Joel, Paul Shaffer, Alec Baldwin, Joan Jett, Peter
Criss of Kiss, DMC of Run DMC, Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge,
LL Cool J, Public Enemy, The Good Rats, Little Anthony and the
Imperials, songwriter Jimmy Webb, former Monkee Peter Tork, The
Tokens, Young Rascals front-man Felix Cavaliere, Twisted Sister,
producer George “Shadow” Morton, Roger Earl of Foghat, Vanilla
Fudge, jazz pianist Mose Allison, Leslie West and Mountain, Gary U.S.
Bonds, Sam “Bluzman” Taylor, Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma from Blue
Oyster Cult, and many others.
Inductees are selected by the LIMHoF Board of Directors from an
evolving and growing list of people, artists, and entities that were
born, raised, founded, or have resided on geographic Long Island
(Brooklyn/Queens/Nassau/Suffolk) for a significant portion of their
career. Induction is based on historical importance and the
significance of their contribution to Long Island’s rich musical
heritage.

Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHOF) is a 501(c)(3) museum and
membership organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s
musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and
preserved for future generations. The organization defines Long Island
geographically as Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties. The Hall
of Fame sponsors the Long Island Sound Award (LISA), traveling
educational exhibits, and a scholarship program. It is also creating a
museum home where the story of the Island’s musical heritage will be
