Howie Hawkins traveled to Rochester alone. No massive campaign machine in sight. What you get from this Green Party candidate for governor is an earnest discussion of tax and ethics reform. “People say ‘you sound like the democrats used to sound.’ New deal democrats don’t exist any more,” Hawkins explains. ‘The new democrats are like the old republicans.”
A recent Gallup Poll shows more than half of voters – 58% – say a third political party is needed because both republicans and democrats do a poor job of delivering on what’s important to them. Three out of four “swing” voters – those registered to no political party – say they want a third option.
