The Georgia Green Party joined other organizations with the Concerned Coalition to Respect Prisoners’ Rights at a press conference, Thursday, January 6th, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Georgia State Capitol, where Edward DuBose, President of the Georgia Conference of NAACP Branches offered a prepared statement and fielded questions for the coalition from the media. The statement began: “The Concerned Coalition to Respect Prisoners’ Rights asserts that the recent brutal beatings by prison guards and CERT team squads of Terrance Dean at Macon State Prison and Miguel Jackson at Smith State Prison were carried out as retaliation for the statewide prisoner work stoppages and were not isolated.”
The Georgia Green Party earlier published a letter addressed to the incoming and outgoing Governors seeking answers on whether the Department of Corrections participated in a criminal conspiracy to conceal Terrance Dean who was reportedly beaten by state employees while incarcerated at Macon State Prison near Oglethorpe Georgia.
The Concerned Coalition has been able to make two visits into DoC facilities to date. After each visit, inmates at those facilities were subjected to brutal beatings, apparently by state employees.
