9:40am update: Evidently the NY Stock Exchange Opening Bell rang on time.
The DOW/DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P have been down so far.
8:44am – People have yelled “Take the Bull” and are near the Wall Street bull. Tim at UStream notes police are working very hard to protect the bull.
People are chanting “Don’t go to work. Don’t go to work.”
8:40am – Things are hot. Chanting “Wall Streets Closed” and “This, is an Occupied Wall Street”.
Live Stream commenters say they believe arrests are starting. There are lots more protesters than police. Do not know how this will work.
Someone said that Global Revolution Live Stream is showing Deutsche Bank Bank, near Hanover Street. People are chanting loud. An activist called “Opera Lady” is singing so loud and beautifully. Wow! Opera is strong.
8:08am Update:
There are a lot of marchers at Wall Street right now. At one point, it seemed like two walls of people, and a thin line of police caught in the middle between two barricades. The police do not seem to be acting too much. Though, Tim from UStream reports the police are saying, “If you see someone with press credentials in the street, take the credentials.” And, now the police are directing the march a bit.
The OWS Direct Action Committee is trying to lead strategically. Trying to get people to stand in front of certain places and buildings so that Wall Street workers will not be able to get to work.
Police are referring to it as a “parade” and using barricades. Tim from UStream notes that is a game to deny it is a protest, and protected speech.
People are definitely in the streets of Wall Street. Not just the sidewalk. The march is upbeat and in motion. Tim at UStream says that when he asked someone for a crowd estimate, they said “thousands and thousands”.
Chants:
“All day, all week, Occupy Wall Street”
“Banks got bailed out. We got sold out.”
“The people, united, will never be defeated”
