[As many of our readers know, The Wilders have little faith in Democratic politicians or Republican politicians to decide things fairly and for the 99%. Though, people in Nassau County should definitely pay attention to this struggle and express their interest in well-funded health and welfare services for those in need. Please consider lobbying Nassau County legislators and/or activating your neighbors to demand fair funding.] [Consider going to the Nassau County Legislature on Monday, May 21st.*]
On Monday, May 21st, the Nassau County Executive is asking the legislature to vote to totally end funding for essential human health and welfare services for its citizens. This will include:
The Office of Youth Services;
The Office of Senior Affairs;
The Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services;
Elimination of the Red Light Camera Dedicated Fund (currently dedicated to the above)
[Editor’s Note: Currently, the proposal would not eliminate red light cameras, it would simply change where the money from them goes.]
The health, well-being and welfare of our most at-risk and neediest citizens should not and cannot be the bargaining chip. There are countless thousands of people whose lives will change drastically on May 21st if the legislator does not act responsibly before then. You can voice your opposition to these cuts by sending an e-mail or making a phone call to your Nassau County legislator and saying:
“I am your constituent. I implore you to find a solution to the current legislative stalemate. Thousands of lives will be impacted by your actions. The community of Nassau County will never be the same. As my elected official, I insist that you and your colleagues find a solution. This catastrophe should not happen and cannot happen. You have between now and Monday, May 21st to find a solution. I expect no less from you.”
