The Lipstick Revolution
Stick It To The Politicians: No Lipstick ‘Til New Year’s
What?
-Women and their supporters are asked not to buy lipstick from now until New Year’s.
Why?
-Women know we deserve better than what happened in this election cycle.
-Women meant to have their big chance to say NO to overturning Roe v Wade
and YES to our reproductive freedom. But, this election resulted in a big loss to women.
Starting right now – in the aftermath of our lost election– starting right now, and up until the New Year, we will strive ourselves, and we will ask other women and men of goodwill, not to wear or purchase any lipstick.
The ultimate request of this campaign is to have everyone stop buying lipstick entirely and stop wearing lipstick entirely from now until January 1, 2025. But…
Do you have concerns? Are you with us on most points, though, have your own opinions, needs, and relationship with lipstick and makeup? We want you to join with us. Of course, you can take action at the level that works for you and is meaningful for you.
So, in order to celebrate our Lipstick Revolution…
Some of us will not wear lipstick at all until New Year’s.
Some of us will also not buy any lipstick.
Some of us will decide to wear lipstick, though we will only use our old stock or we will share lipstick tubes among friends.
Some of us will show solidarity and take action by choosing to purchase lipstick only from small and/or local and/or women owned businesses.
Some of us will use our lipstick to create messages to the world about what we demand.
Please use our Lipstick Revolution however it resonates for you. And, please be in solidarity with us as we proclaim:
-When Roe v Wade was overturned, it pulled the rug out from under women and took away our right to reproductive freedom. It took away our bodily autonomy and our right to confer with our doctors about a wide variety of healthcare decisions.
-The Democratic politicians did, in fact, take some small measures to support abortion access. Though, they did not do enough. And, they seemed to ask women to wait for the big win until an election…an election that was lost, and became a blow to women, to justice, to many other groups, and to democracy, itself.
As women, we will not wait anymore for the issue of our bodies and our health to be heard.
We will not wait for another election, or a new administration, or some other far away event before our basic rights are restored.
We want all elected officials to do something right now to get us our freedom back.
And, if we do not get our freedom back – if Roe v Wade is not overturned or a new law is not put in place immediately that supports at least the freedoms of Roe v Wade — then we will stand together with this and other boycotts, petitions, and political campaigns.
