PUT YOUR FAITH/ ETHICS/ VALUES IN ACTION ON THE DEATH PENALTY THIS OCTOBER!!!
WHAT IS THE WEEKEND OF FAITH IN ACTION?
Every year, Amnesty International’s Program to Abolish the Death Penalty hosts its “Weekend of Faith in Action,” a weekend which serves as an opportunity for people involved in faith-based or (and, I add) ethics/values-based communities to examine critically the issue of capital punishment in our society. NYADP joins Amnesty this year in helping such communities have meaningful events.
WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE?
In the past, activities for this weekend have ranged moments of silence during a regular service to inserts in bulletins to candlelight vigils to hosting speakers to group letter-writings to watching a film to the tolling of bells to the signing of declarations of life.
Students have also been involved in bringing death-penalty related events to
their school
EVEN THOUGH YOU WANT TO HELP, YOU’RE ONE PERSON, AND NO FREE TIME:
No problem. NYADP’s staff will take care of 98% of the work. We’ll provide the resources,whether it is a speaker, films, literature for community members, letter-writing/ petition samples, etc.
WHAT IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DATE OPEN IN OCTOBER?
The weekend of faith in action serves as a central point for organizing activity, but you do not have to have your event then.
