Labor Day weekend is the time of the big Powwow at Shinnecock, in Eastern Long Island. It is a great way to spend some of your holiday. There will be: Native music and Native Dance — including The Grand Entry, when all the dancers arrive on stage; Native arts and crafts — a great chance to find unique clothes, jewelry, musical instruments, toys, and more; demonstrations; and food vendors (Have you tried Indian Fry Bread?). Lots of chances to reflect on beauty, nature, and Native culture.
You can find directions at the flier above. Or, put “1 Little Church Road, Shinnecock Reservation, NY 11969” into MapQuest. The Shinnecock Indian Nation (which recently received federal recognition) is located near Southampton, making this one of the coolest events in the Hamptons! And, not just because LVT will be there!
