Where can you find new energy in the world? Who greeted the new year with the most profound and changeful ideas?
Answer: The Poetry Project.
Ian and I missed it this year. Though, The 38th Annual Poetry Project New Years Day Marathon at St.Marks Church in NYC went on as usual this year — as usual, with excitement and new ideas. We have been meaning to put up more coverage of this cool civic and cultural event. For now, you can check out a collection of video performances at Clairedelune 49’s Youtube Channel: here.
There is a story about Patti Smith’s presentation, and a posting of the Patti Smith video at Occupied Cell: here. See underneath for some Patti Smith quotes on the Occupy Wall Street movement…
* * *
Before Patti Smith performed the song “Grateful”, she read from a poem in progress (see video above). In it, she referred to the occupy movement with the following…
“they serve as an agent of righteousness…”
and
their cry is “a premonition of the reign of the people”
Patti Smith also said, “I have a feeling that 2012 is gonna be a really interesting year…”
