Hi Everyone,
I'm organizing a fundraiser for next Friday, April 28th, at the United Methodist Church in Southampton.
"In the Spirit of Justice" is to benefit Bob Zellner, a civil rights activist, and three Shinnecock Indians;
Chuck Quinn, Rebecca Genia (Tauk's aunt) and Gordell Wright; who were arrested six years ago while trying to stop the development of sacred land.
All four were acquitted of criminal charges and Bob sued the state and won, but the state is now appealing the decision. We need to raise $7,500 by May 1st. The other three have also sued the state, but the state has postponed their cases until Bob's has been decided.
There will be Indian tacos (fry bread with all the toppings) and other assorted goodies. Admission is $10. There will also be a chinese auction $1 per ticket or 6 for $5…and some of the prizes are as follows,
A gift certificate for a massage at La Carreza (valued at $95), Different bottles of wine from Channing Daughters Winery (Valued $25-$75 each), A gift basket made of different Shinnecock products (Thunder Island Coffee, Thunder Bird Sisters CDs, and a Shinnecock Museum t-shirt), Indian pottery, and much much more to come!
Please please come take the ride to the hamptons!!! This is the first fundraiser that I'm organizing on my own and I would love all your support. Plus if you have ever said to yourself "wow I wish I could help the Shinnecock" here is the perfect chance!!!!
