Make a statement against domestic violence: Help oust State Senator Monserrate

KW: All this time the Monserrate situation has made me so angry. It seemed quiet apparent that he was involved in some kind of domestic violence, and yet he remained a public official, and the Democratic leaders actually caved into him when Monserrate made his power play during the NY State Senate Coup. Now, the […]

A commenter at the NY Times site says that two supporters of the Party for Socialism and Liberation candidate Frances Villar were also thrown out. Reverend Billy received extensive press coverage, including: The NY Times; The Daily News; Gotham Schools; Ballot Access News and The Village Voice.

Summer 2009: Long Island and NYC Beach Closings

KW: I can’t seem to find a way to get automatic alerts or updates. Seems like a need to fill. Because, when I search, Newsday and our blog are the only place to find that info. For now, the only way I have been told to check on Long Island beach closings is to call […]

Meet in physical space: Upcoming Rev Billy for Mayor events

Vote Rev Billy For Mayor Of NYC It’s our Democracy, stupid! All problems can be traced to our inability to convene, to meet – physically – in public space. Meeting in public, the oldest form of Democracy, is also the most modern.  It is resisted by a byzantine system of police permits, insurance, surveillance.  Our […]

Leaving a candidate’s name off the ballot

Kimberly writes: Why do I care about a Democratic candidate in New York City Council District 1? Because, a technicality first threw the candidate’s signatures out at the Board of Elections. And, in the tug-of-war, the candidate was put back on the ballot. Though, the Board of Elections sent out the absentee ballots without his […]

For the politically curious in NY: Tues. Aug. 18th is a big day!

KW: For potential candidates in New York State, tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, 2009, is the last day to file in person (or mail) an “independent nominating petition” to run for office in November. That would mean anyone who was running on an alternative, “made-up”, or third party (without automatic ballot status) line has that due […]

Why you need to help Rev. Billy petition for NYC Mayor TODAY

from the Daily News This year, the Green candidate is the charismatic showman the Rev. Billy Talen, who could do even better. He dresses in an electric blue suit and sings songs about driving Bloomberg out of town – and Castell won’t rule out a petition challenge to try to knock him off the ballot. […]
