Waiting
Only through your death could we see your life laid out before us
Only as you are fallen could we see the depth and intricacy of the foundation you created
I recall another friend like you
a lover of nature
who nearly cherished that which was dead
how it turned back to dirt and new life in the forest
Only now I understand
there is so much there
waiting
invisible
powerful
a mystery
A million different stories
unfolding in the shadow of your leaving
Though you are not leaving
Like this fallen tree you stay with us
only silent now
yet still as present
