Gathering Time is a new acoustic vocal trio with strong hints of Peter, Paul & Mary and Crosby , Stills and Nash, consisting of members Glen Roethel, Stuart Markus and Hillary Foxsong, three emerging talents on the acoustic music scene. Their first recording together, a lively cover of Peter Yarrow’s holiday classic, “Light One Candle” made rotation on numerous folk radio stations from New York to Israel within one week of its release.
Glen Roethel‘s credits (guitar, vocals, bass) include more than 100 copyrights, scores of co-writes and production on 15+ records (including 2 self-produced, full-length CDs), national syndicated airplay, radio play spanning the globe and background music for TV. A songwriter contest finalist for the Susquehanna Music & Arts Festival in 2007, Glen’s song “Namaste'” (from his debut CD, From Beginning to End) was featured in a Presidential Museum exhibit in Texas and a new song, “People of the Earth” was published in a New Thought songbook for The Association of Unity Churches International. Release of his second CD, Smaller Things is imminent.
Stuart Markus (guitar, vocals, bass) is a journalist, musician, songwriter and community organizer. Known as the creator of Long Island’s official Groundhog’s Day theme song, Stuart has organized several noted songwriter concerts including the Malverne Songwriter Festival, the Thanksgiving Benefit Concert for Huntington’s Song Box, and a benefit to rebuild the Broadway Beanery, a well-known coffee house and music venue destroyed by fire in 2001. He has been the organizer of “Wild About Harry: The Harry Chapin Tribute Concert” since 2004. An avid singer of sea chantys and one half of the traditional maritime music duo Strike the Bell , Stuart has shared the stage with Tom Paxton, Oscar Brand, Christine Lavin, Dar Williams, Ashford & Simpson, David Johansen, and John Hall of the band Orleans . His CDs, Not the Only One Who Feels This Way and The View from the Side of the Road have enjoyed college, commercial and folk radio support.
Hillary Foxsong (vocals) grew up in a musical household. “When we sang along with the radio in my house, we sang harmonies. You always had to find your own part and fit in with everyone else.” Those early lessons polished her a fine ‘ear’ and a musical sense that stood her in good stead through years of school and church choirs, and even a long infatuation with karaoke bars. Hillary met Glen in 2005 at an Oyster Bay street festival where he immediately recognized her vocal talent and invited her to join him at the mic. She hasn’t stopped singing since, and – at Glen’s urging – she began writing songs in 2005. She is amazing audiences with her lush, vivid lyrical poetry and pleasing melodies.
The Islip Arts Council is proud to present Gathering Time as part of the Free Music at Common Ground Concerts at the beautiful Sayville Common Ground, Islip Rotary Park , between Gillette and Candee Avenues, Sayville on SSunday, October 5th at 2:00 PM. .
