I think it is important for people to come to know journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi, speak his name, and watch what the governments of Iraq (and the United States?) have in store for him. I am grateful to the article below for showing me exactly who is keeping the man in custody. If you click on the full article, you will find interesting spin from a variety of directions, including words and motives that the government wants to apply to him and his action, but also the various slants that supporters are putting out to carefully plead for his release. I think it is fascinating, but obviously necessary, to emphasize that al-Zeidi is a young man with a family. I am sure that that is something necessary to emphasize in order to gain him sympathy among the people, and possibly sympathy from his accusers. -KW

Official: Shoe-thrower in Iraqi military custody
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
BAGHDAD (AP) — The journalist who threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush was handed over to the Iraqi military, an Iraqi official said, as hundreds took to the streets Tuesday for a second day demanding his release.
Muntadhar al-Zeidi was turned over by the prime minister’s security guards to face further investigation by the military command in charge of enforcing security in Baghdad, the official told The Associated Press…
In Mosul, Iraq’s third largest city located north of Baghdad, an estimated 1,000 protesters carried banners and chanted slogans demanding al-Zeidi’s release.
A couple of hundred more also protested Tuesday in Nasiriyah, a Shiite city about 200 miles southeast of Baghdad, and Fallujah, a Sunni area west of the capital.
“Muntadhar al-Zeidi has expressed the feelings and ambitions of the Iraqi people toward the symbol of tyranny,” said Nassar Afrawi, a protester in Nasiriyah.
