Do not be fooled by the name of this meeting neither Obama’s plan nor the LIPC “affordable” healthcare plan is single-payer universal healthcare. This meeting should be organizing to push for single-payer universal healthcare as the brave doctors did at Senator Bacchus’ meeting rather than to support the insurance cimpanyies’ plan for healthcare “reform”.
I am not surprised by this tactic. LIPC works hand-in-glove with the Working Families Party (WF) in NY, and this is the same tactic WF used in 2006 to undermine the peace movement. In WF tricked voters (and Pete Seeger) into supporting pro-war Hillary Clinton and pro-war Eliot Sptizer by telling them a vote for them on WF would send an anti-war message. After the election, WF’s phony anti-war message was never heard of again. And the voter’s lost the chance to vote for true anti-war candidates on the Green Party line.
Don’t be fooled again! Tell LIPC you want single-payer universal healthcare.

> President Franklin D. Roosevelt was met by a delegation of labor union members who were campaigning for the Social Security bill. He responded to them, “You know, I agree with you. This will be of great benefit to the people. Now go out and make me do it.” That’s what he needed: there were conservative, wealthy Americans whom he dubbed “economic royalists” and their allies in Congress that had to be actively opposed by New Dealers.

> As millions of workers lose jobs, many of them also lose health insurance. Already 47 million have no health insurance. Many of us are outraged – to know that people in our affluent society can not get decent needed medical care.

> U.S. is the only advanced industrial nation that does not have a national health program that provides universal affordable health care. France spends 6% of its GDP on health services and is among the world’s first ranked health care providers, while the U.S. spends 16-18% of its GDP for its health care system and ranks 37th in the quality of its medical care. Congress will begin to discuss Pres. Obama’s private/public national health plan as well as HR 676, a bill proposing a system similar to a public Medicare for All Plan. Our speakers will explore them.
