Health care insurance reform is on everyone’s mind right now, but it has not come soon enough for Rich Arfin, who is the LI Music Hall of Fame’s historian and webmaster. Rich has always been incredibly supportive of Long Island musicians, and wrote what is considered the bible of LI music history, ‘Beaches, Bars & B-3s’ which was published in Goldmine, Rolling Stone and has been widely quoted/borrowed/stolen from on the internet.
Rich has been dealing with a debilitating and mysterious neuropathy, which was finally diagnosed after a battery of tests. Unfortunately, like so many of us, Rich is underemployed, and uninsured, so it’s a real hardship for him to pay the medical bills.
All of these great musicians are happy that Rich has supported them, and they are returning the favor by playing at a benefit this Sunday afternoon. Brickhouse Brewery, built in 1850, is a beautifully restored, comfortable and fun place. I am not a drinker, but I have hung out there watching bands with my ginger ale in hand, and have felt right at home.
It’s a great cause, and will make an immediate, positive impact in someone’s life. I’ll be there!
