Update! March 24, 2010: Execution delayed by Supreme Court. News story: here. Check on updates with anti-death penalty group: here.
The National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty [NCADP] urges you to continue Shouting From the Rooftops about the possibility that we’ve executed innocent people in this country. Part of that work also means Shouting From the Rooftops when someone is about to be executed despite questions of that person’s guilt.
Wednesday’s Houston Chronicle featured an op-ed from former Bexar County District Attorney Sam Millsap regarding the case of Hank Skinner, who is scheduled for execution on March 24th. We need your help TODAY in submitting online comments and letters to the editor that echo the concerns that Mr. Millsap expresses in his op-ed. Please note that you may need to create an account with the Chronicle in order to post a comment.
This is also an opportunity to submit letters to the editor to your own local newspaper and to other Texas newspapers. Click here to use the Letter to the Editor tool on NCADP’s Shouting From the Rooftops Page.
Here are some points you should make in your letters regarding Skinner’s case:
– Hank Skinner’s innocence claims have never been considered by Texas courts.
– There’s no harm in learning the truth in this case.
– Express concern that Texas is about to create the next Cameron Todd Willingham or Timothy Cole.
– Demand clemency for Hank Skinner so that the critical DNA evidence can be tested.
More information and additional opportunities for action on the Hank Skinner case are available at http://www.ncadp.org/hankskinner. You can also visit NCADP’s Texas Affiliate, the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, for more information and more ways to get involved.
Thank you for taking action at this critical moment. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Thanks for the work you do to make a more just world. – Kimberly
I am a firm believer in the death penalty. but i know that the system is messed up and we do have innocent people locked up in our prisons. on that note why is it less than an hour before he is set to die that this is being ruled that he needed a stay. if you think that they are innocent things should be taken fourth to the attorneys way before one hour before execution.
