About the video…
Walt Whitman was born on May 31st, 1819. At the Walt Whitman Birthplace museum, they celebrated his birthday early, on May 8th, 2011 with their 25th Annual Student Poetry Contest and a visit from celebrated poet C.K Williams. Some unexpected guests showed up. Can you find the real Walt Whitman?
Darrel Blaine Ford is the man with the walking stick, who often supports the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association by serving as a historical reenactor (impersonator or personifier) for poet Walt Whitman. The other Walt Whitman look-alikes are members of Mr. Heller’s class, who won a prize for their poetry anthology.
The birthplace is located in West Hills, Town of Huntington, Long Island, New York (across from The Walt Whitman Mall). Please visit them online at http://waltwhitman.org The video is by local blogger Kimberly Wilder of onthewilderside.com. There are more photos of the day at Kimberly’s Flickr: here.
See the video below for a way to celebrate Walt Whitman’s birthday, on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, with silence and a tribute to nature…
