IW: I check for the dates of town board meetings regularly on the Babylon Town site to post on this site. I checked this month and there were no town board meeting listed for the future. This is not surprising since the town has a habit of not wanting citizens to attend these meetings. The vast majority of the meeting happen during the day time when most people work.
from Thursday’s 7/21/11 Newsday a Special Town Board meeting was announced:
The 4 p.m. meeting at Town Hall in Lindenhurst is being held solely to discuss choosing a company to act as master developer for Wyandanch Rising, the town’s $500-million project that includes transit-oriented development around the Long Island Rail Road station and a variety of housing types, commercial properties and public green spaces.
Not only was there there no notice of the meeting, it was held during the working day when few citizens could attend. What was the urgency in awarding this contract that it could not be done during a regularly scheduled town board meeting?
