Youtube description: “Before she was Patti Smith the punk priestess, before she was Patti Smith the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer, before she was the subject of biographies and films, she was Patti Smith the poetess, giving readings in downtown New York at places like the Poetry Project, or wherever downtown poets read. Here she is almost as before. 2010 finds her less angry, sexy, and rebellious but still Patti the poetess, enchanting us with her surrealist verse, this one to a Russian filmmaker I never heard of but maybe you did. St. Marks Church annual Poetry Project Marathon. Lower East Side New York City January 1, 2010”
KW notes: I looked up the person Patti Smith dedicated her poem to. He is: Andrei Tarkovsky. I am always learning such interesting things from Patti Smith. When I saw her at the whbpac in Westhampton Beach, she was celebrating opera, including the words and story of La Boheme. Now, she has made me want to study up on Andrei Tarkovsky. Here is a quote from him as presented at Wikipedia:
Ingmar Bergman said of him: “Tarkovsky for me is the greatest [director], the one who invented a new language, true to the nature of film, as it captures life as a reflection, life as a dream”
