Natalie McGill reports at Gazette.net:
The mother of Natasha Pettigrew, a Green Party Senate candidate who died Sept. 20 after her bike was struck by a sport utility vehicle, will replace her daughter as the party’s nominee.
Kenniss Henry of Cheverly will run in Pettigrew’s place in the Nov. 2 general election, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections website.
“We’re pleased and we think there’s no greater tribute to Natasha and to her issues than to allow our supporters to cast a vote for her mother,” said Maryland Green Party co-chair Karen Jennings. “We’re glad Kenniss was willing to do this.”
Henry did not immediately return phone calls regarding the replacement. The Maryland Green Party issued a written statement from Henry in a news release.
“I can think of no greater honor than to run my daughter’s race to the finish line. I am and shall always remain dedicated to easing the plight of the people. I shall continue her race as she started; running for the people! I shall adopt Natasha’s campaign issues as my own. In addition, we all must share common facilities such as our roads and I am committed to bringing about changes to the current laws so that we protect everyone. One of Natasha’s pet peeves was the lack of proper bike lanes. I intend to be her voice of advocacy fighting to bring bike lanes to full fruition. Thanks to the Green Party for their vote of confidence in my daughter and now in me.”

My grandmother, Corrine, helped take care of me when I was a child and my mom worked up to three jobs at once. Watching and experiencing my mom’s struggles instilled an early sense of responsibility and hard work within me. She and I have always been there for one another…
