What’s happening in Tampa now?
A great photo summary is: here. I think it updates occasionally.
(Thanks to Shannone from LI for linking to it.)
Some updates culled from the above and from my brief study of news sites today (Sunday, 8/26):
1. There are activists on the ground in Tampa now, holding demonstrations and making statements.
2. There are a lot of police watching the activists. There is a photo of a Tampa Police vehicle that is essentially a tan — but, it claims to be “Rescue 2”.
3. The Republican National Committee has said, in deference to oncoming Storm Isaac, they are cutting the convention to three days.
4. So, I think the demonstrators will be doing more than the Republican delegates.
5. There was a big Ron Paul this afternoon. Great attendance. Some into at The Albany Times Union: here.
6. Code Pink activists dressed like hot pink vaginas, to tell the RNC to keep their hands off women’s bodies. Great photos at the CodePink Flickr: here.
7. There will be upcoming peace protests. One of the main slogans is, “”Good jobs, health care, affordable education, equality and peace.” Article at Politics in Polk: here.
8. Occupy Wall Street — including at least three buses from the group from NYC — will Occupy the RNC on Monday.

Kimberly’s Convention Disclaimer:
Believe it or not, I sometimes try to suppress my curmudgeonly opinions, when other activists are doing things they think matter. So, I am not a fan of protesting conventions. I have been a Green Party Presidential Delegate. And, I think there is something to be said for letting the other teams deliberate in private before the elections. That said, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party unfairly use tax money and local police to prop up their lavish conventions. And, at least some occupiers and activists have figured out the importance of protesting the conventions of both, major parties. So, it will be interesting to see what messages are sent, and what energy is gathered together, at the RNC protest this week, and the DNC protest later on.
