Hurricane Sandy has begun her visit to Long Island. Ian and I are stocked up on water and food, and doing okay. (We are north of Sunrise Highway, so not that bad.) We will probably have intermittent blog access, since our electricity flickered two times already, and the wireless went out for a bit.

We are continuing to broadcast from 120 Wall Street. It is a mixture of live broadcasts and already-produced material, along with some off-site regular programming. We will continue to broadcast here at 120 Wall St until the building forces us out. ConEd may take precautions and shut off the power to Lower Manhattan & the whole building, so we have to make contingency plans to leave. We don’t know yet if or when that will happen, but the building management will give us some notice before they decide to do it.

At the present time, people are still being let into the building.

The worst is yet to come storm-wise. High tide this morning has come and gone, water levels have risen but not spilled into the street from the river. The crucial time is this afternoon/evening when high tide arrives again. It is expected to rise above this mornings’ levels, and when it does the building may make the decision to shut off power and evacuate everyone.

If 120 Wall St loses power we will use our stop gap measure: the comrex at Michael G Haskins’ place, where he will run pre-recorded programs along with live updates.

Tony Ryan, Ken Gale, Graceon Challenger and myself are currently here at the studios. We intend to keep broadcasting as much live music/talkback programming as possible. Esther Armah is exhausted after being up all night and has left. Tony Ryan has been here since last night but will be staying. Same for Ken. I have been here since Sunday afternoon. If anyone is willing to come in and assist it would be appreciated. Producers can also call in and give us updates as to what is happening in their neighborhoods.

As always we will keep you posted as to what will take place.
