The supersized Trump on the Ocean catering hall project that has been proposed to replace the current “Boardwalk Restaurant” at Jones Beach has been the subject of media discussion, public hearings, and litigation. The media has discussed the controversy about increase in square footage, increased height, and an added basement in a flood zone that would replace the historic restaurant.
Friedman is an activist from Nassau County who has been oft quoted in the media on the Trump on the Ocean project. In a process that has changed from day-to-day, Freidman will provide an up-to-the-moment update on the status of the project and the citizen reaction to it. She will also provide an overview of how an experienced citizen activist interacts with a large project.
Friedman has wide experience in community organizing. She is the Founder and Chair of the 17-year-old Nassau County Non-Partisan Tax Revolt Coalition. As part of the work of coalition, she was elected President of the Franklin Square School Board. 1n 1991. Her school board election was profiled in the Education Section of the New York Times.
Friedman is also the President of her civic association, the Community League of Garden City South, and she served as Vice Chair for the national We The People Foundation from 1997 to 2004. In addition in 2001, she ran for the Nassau County Legislature in the 8th District on the Green Party line.
