On Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 7pm, the Babylon Green Party Gathering will host songwriter Bob Westcott, who has been called the “real deal”, and for good reason: Westcott has been performing his elegant finger style guitar work for over 30 years. He just recently release his third solo album, Falling from Graceland. www.BabylonGreens.org The event will be held at Pisces Café, 14A Railroad Avenue, Babylon, NY (631-321-1231) www.piscescafe.net (map) Come hungry! For directions to the Babylon Green Gathering, call 631-422-4702 or email ian.wilder@yahoo.com Children are welcome. All gatherings are free of charge, and open to the public.
Westcott’s last two solo performances for the Babylon Greens have been very special personal performances unlike his usual set. This performance has to be seen in person. Westcott has requested this performance not be videotaped for public access broadcast or webcast so it will be as cozy as his last two Babylon Greens performances.
The question remains will this year’s set be more like Westcott’s performance of three years ago with rambling personal reminiscences and impromptu set changes? Or will it be a peak behind the curtain of a songwriter’s creativity like last year’s show? Will Westcott bring along his acoustic amp to brandish his well-known solo folkie side, or will he bring out the red Gretsch to rock the house? The only way to know is to be there.
Westcott has a depth of musical, and life, experience to draw upon. During the 60’s, he played in the basket houses of Greenwich Village, then moved to Manchester, England to explore the British Folk Scene. During the 70’s, Westcott traveled throughout Canada and the US, living in the Midwest, California and Upstate NY before settling on Eastern Long Island. His astonishing finger style guitar work and universally resonant songwriting have made him a perennial favorite on the Long Island scene.
Westcott is a Long Island Music Award nominee. He has opened for several nationally_known performers, including John Hammond, Merle Haggard, Richie Havens, Tom Paxton, The Nields, and most recently, Richard Shindell. Westcott’s annual Holiday Revue is a wildly popular event in which he presents his personal favorite musicians to the Folk Music Society audience. This year’s Revue is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2008. He also performs as a member of the super groups The Defibrillators and Blacklisted & the Banned Albums by the Defibrillators and Blacklisted are available at www.cdbaby.com.
