Get a guy like Malik in Congress…(and news breakout)

KW: Malik Rahim is running on the Green Party line for Congress in New Orleans, Louisiana area. Having Malik Rahim in Congress will be a benefit to everyone in every state who believes in environmental peace and justice.

When I like a race, and love a candidate, I often scan the news and blogs for stories. I am excited to say, that with only 5 more days until election day, Malik Rahim is having a pretty abundant news breakout, including a podcast mention (see the read more.) During my news scan, an old article popped up that gives a candid flash of insight into Malik’s leadership.

A compliment to Malik Rahim: Do you have someone in your circle of friends who is the calm presence in the face of crisis? The person you send to talk to the nice little police men when they start questioning you at a demonstration? Looks like Malik is that dependable colleague among the activist set in New Orleans.

In June 2007, on Massaging the High Water Mark, Jaime Hazard wrote about Malik Rahim:

Good times! Today was the demonstration against HUD and HANO…At first, HANO police weren’t allowing the press to speak with us– which is totally illegal– but after awhile the press broke through the pathetic three-person barricade…

The highlight for me was when Common Ground’s founder, Malik Rahim, showed up. Just his presence was awe-inspiring. He is a tenacious, intelligent man that loves to make noise. As soon as he arrived everyone knew that the police wouldn’t dare touch us…

With 5 days to go, there is still time for you to help a leader like Malik get elected to Congress. That is because the Malik Rahim team has been proactive about setting up their ground game, and creating mechanisms to utilize the inevitable last minute donations and surge of support. If you can donate on line now (and maybe even via snail mail), there will still be time for them to snap up more radio ad time, and/or print new literature for their local volunteers. If you have down time and a little bit of money (or cheap-travel-know-how) you could go down to New Orleans and find a way to help.

The election is on Saturday, December 6th. Malik Rahim has a genuine chance to win this election. Please consider donating to him today – just like you would want people to donate to that dependable activist in your town if she were running for election! Please note, political contributions are not tax deductible. But, you can find all that info and the donate form at the Malik Rahim web-site: www.votemalik.com. Please go over now, as there are only 5 days left to help. We can get someone in Congress who is devoted to environmental peace and justice!

Now, some other news coverage of the Malik Rahim for Congress campaign:

Malik Rahim covered in a podcast. Pretty cool. The show is called Secret Frequency. The show summary is: “Malik Rahim is still running, Ralph Nader jumps the shark, and Obama builds his cabinet. Also signals from space bringing a message of peace.” It is short and the commentary on Malik’s race is near the beginning. You can find the audio: here.

Another alternative media site helps get the word out about Malik Rahim. Story at Philadelphia Front Page News.

Great video: This weekend, several sites posted the archived video of Malik Rahim describing some of the history of New Orleans. One place to find it is at Green Party Watch: here. This video seems like a great way to show locals that Malik Rahim is committed and connected to his community. Even though all of us greens around the country are excited about Malik’s race, he has to get votes from the people of Louisiana, and they will have to know he will stand up for them. This video illustrates his commitment beautifully.

Attention on a political news junkie site:
I had not seen this site before. It is called That’s My Congress. It’s tagline is: “An independent chronicle of the battle for and squabbles within the U.S. House and Senate, covering the most interesting campaigns and the most controversial legislation.” Sounds like a juicy new site for electoral activists and those of us who like political gossip. They made positive mention of Malik Rahim’s race: here.
